IMPORTANT: You must have the following requirements completed or your WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO TRY OUT (EVEN IF YOU ARE A VARSITY RETURNING PLAYER!!!) You will complete all forms and requirements online this year. You can begin ASAP.

Steps to Becoming a Branham Athlete

BHS Sports Physical on Monday, Aug. 1st at 2 pm in the training room ($20 cash-goes to BHS sports)

REMEMBER: Don’t wait until the last minute to finish your requirements. No player may tryout without having completed all requirements. We will list players that have completed all of their forms on the Latest News page.

NOTE: Dead days are July 24th through August 3rd. No organized team sport specific workouts are allowed. Fitness and conditioning workouts ARE allowed.

Tryout Requirements-Tryouts begin August 7th. They will continue through the 11th with a make-up session on August 12 (and the next week if needed). This is open to both returning and new players. All athletes will participate in fitness testing which will measure power, strength, endurance, agility and speed. There will be a post test at the end of the season as well. The tests are listed below:
  • Power Clean
  • 40 yard run
  • Bench Press
  • Pro-Agility Test
  • Back Squat
  • 300-yard shuttle-3x combined average
  • Mile run
If players are unable to attend one or any of the testing days, they will be required to attend a make-up day. Teams will be posted by August 17th, however players that haven’t completed testing will be posted as “tentative” until testing is complete. Also, since field hockey is new for many girls, the JV roster will be open until Aug. 25th. FYI, tryout times are listed for two hours but we will spend some of the time going over expectations and teaching warm up routines.

Day 1-4

Monday-Thursday, Aug 7-10 6-8 p.m.
On these days we will do stick skills, small game, fitness testing and scrimmages. The main purpose is to see what players are ready to be on the varsity team. All players, new and returning, are welcome to come. New players will be taught basic skills and ball movement.


Day 5
Friday, Aug 11th 9-11 a.m.
Fitness and skills testing

NOTE: We are planning a Team Dinner at a local park. Time and location TBA

Day 6-9
Monday-Thursday, Aug 14-17th (see below for times)

NOTE: School Begins Mon., Aug 14th-Regular practice schedule begins
Varsity Practice (3:00--5:00)
JV Practice (4:30-6:30)

No practice Friday, August 18th. Show your school pride and attend the “Welcome Back Dance.”


What to bring to tryouts:
running shoes
turf shoes (flat bottom shoes or soccer cleats)
dark (modest) shorts
dark and light top or reversible practice jersey (these will be avail. for purchase)
supportive undergarments (ie. sports bra)
shin guards
mouth guard
stick (you can borrow one if you are trying out for the first time)
hair bands/clips (you must pull hair back out of your face)
water
small snack
no jewelry
positive, enthusiastic attitude

NOTE:cell phones and other electronics must be put away during tryouts.
